True Vine Challenge: When Life is Normal

First, let me say “I got nothing.” This week’s True Vine Challenge feels like it’s falling flat and as much I as might try to force something, that seems really counter productive.

I have no wise words to share, no brilliant aha moments. Essentially, my abiding times this week have been a whole lotta normal, if there is such a thing.

The non-abiding times have been pretty crazy/normal as well. There was the holiday weekend with a house full of people.  I had Aglow Wednesday morning. We hosted Young Life Thursday night and tonight we went to the football game tonight.

We had another minor water incident this afternoon. The plunger thingee inside the toilet tank in Jake’s bedroom broke, forcing it upwards, which made the tank top jiggle and move. The tank kept filling and filling until the thing finally overflowed, leaving a trail of water in the laundry room ceiling below. Fortunately clean up wasn’t too bad and Peter will likely be able to fix it.

So, yeah. Life happens.

And speaking of life, my great (or is it grand) nephew Brantley continues to improve. Now that’s significant. Miraculous really.

For the last few weeks my neck has been a bit out of whack. A couple of nights ago my hands and arms woke me up with a numbing sensation. (Sounds paradoxical, doesn’t it?) Anyway, this morning I went to the chiropractor for an adjustment. As I relaxed with those little electrode sensors attached to my neck and shoulders, I prayed that God would bring me into alignment with His plans and purposes.

First the natural, then the spiritual.

**
I’m undertaking two challenges this fall.

First, I’ve decided to run a 5K and am looking at doing the I Am Woman 5K run/walk on Saturday, October 27th.

Who’s in with me??

And secondly, it’s been a long time since I’ve undertaken any significant Scripture memory. How about you? I’ve decided if I want His words to abide in me, then I really should commit them to memory.

So, I’m going to memorize John 15. The whole chapter. Won’t you join me? I’m not an expert like Ann or Ann, but I know it makes sense.

Starting with the first verse this week.

John 15:1 I am the True Vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.

That’s it. One verse, repeated again and again, for the next couple of days, I’ll be saying it from memory, then reviewing.

John 15:1 I am the True Vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.

More later. Time for some other normal stuff. Like sleep.

Linking up with Sandy, for Still. Because I need to come apart on Saturday. Won’t you check out the Still Saturday community? And then be sure to link up here for the True Vine Challenge.

Still Saturday

I know God is at work because in spite of my pemphigus (whaaaat?!!!), thalassemia(another whaaaat?!),DVT and numb pinkie, I am excited and hopeful and I love waking up early to find out what God has in store for me during my prayer time! Thanks for hosting! Patsy

Patsy, you had me googling medical terms this morning. I’ve never heard of the first three you mentioned. Your positive outlook is evidence of your heart for God and dependence on Him. I’m so glad to see you here each week!

So I totally was thinking about Scripture memorization this week. Thanks for allow the Lord use you Cheryl to confirm in my heart what I need to work on. I love it that the Father works like that! I too will commit to memorize John 15:1. Gulp. I am embarrassed to say It has been a while since I have attempted this. Say, like 8th grade. We can do it together friend!

Sounds like you had a crazy moment or two yourself this week… my own post linked is about a wild few minutes of panic, but how God spoke peace into me to just listen… sometimes abiding takes refocus… :) Have a weekend of His peace holding you close… Jehovah Shalom. ` Pam, http://wordglow.wordpress.com

Life happens. Don’t I know it.

Hey, good for you and the 5K! I’ll be cheering you on. Running is my favorite exercise – but I’m always glad when it’s over! I am a going to run a 5K with my 9-year-old daughter in November.

Susan, I think I’m insane. My friend Preston is trying to convince me to do a 4-miler THIS Saturday. We’re doing a trial run on Wednesday to see how it goes. Counting the cost before I commit…
